  For fourty years of my life I searched for my adopted brother. On the first day that I found him and talked to him on the phone, he told me about a Bear hunt that he and his adopted father had planned to go on. Sadly his adopted father passed away and he was going to go on his own. He told me that it would be so special if he and I could go together. The very next day I called and talked to Brenda at Spruce Mountain Lodge and she fit me in. My brother and I not only made that hunting trip, but we came back two more times, the first time with both of our uncles and the second time with just my younger uncle. I have personally harvested 3 Bears, my brother 2 and our uncle 1. I am at an age of my life where I know what it is like to meet someone who is one of a kind and Steve the owner at Spruce Mountain lodge is the real deal. He and his wife Brenda have treated us like family each and every time we have hunted with them and we have talked with dozens of other hunters who say the same. There is absolutely no better place to go to hunt Black Bears in the USA. Steve knows the woods like the back of his hand and chances are if you go empty handed, it is because of something you the hunter will do wrong (site your rifles boys). If you are looking to be pampered and sleep on a sleep number bed, this is not the place for you. Spruce Mountain Lodge is a man’s lodge, meant for real men who want to go on a real hunt. Steve will put you on the trail of more Bear in a week long hunt than you will most likely ever see in your lifetime anywhere else. You will leave their lodge feeling like you are leaving family and knowing that you have just made memories that you will talk about for the rest of your lifetime. I cannot speak highly enough about the professionalism of Spruce Mountain Lodge. They have dogs who defy anything that I have ever witnessed and I come from South Dakota where we take our hunting seriously. Steve runs you down the road like a 70’s trucker late for a hot date on a Friday night, because he knows where dogs will cross with Bears in the run for hundreds of square miles. I say this because a lot of these guides are more worried about scratching their trucks than finding your Bear. Steve has one goal in mind because he takes his job seriously and that is to get you your Bear. It will be an adventure of a lifetime for you if you have not been to Spruce Mountain Lodge before. I put my personal reputation on it.

  I have been hunting with Brenda and Steve Cole of Spruce Mountain Lodge for bear for 10 plus years.. They have a way of always making their hunters feel at home. They make the hunting experience very enjoyable. The hunting lodge is always warm with plenty of delicious food being served. If you go hungry, it is your own fault. The ten years I have been bear hunting with Brenda and Steve has been very successful. I have shot seven bears between hunting over bait or with hounds. My youngest son also shot a nice bear the year he came hunting with me. It shot his bear the first day. Randy

  I cannot say enough good things about this outfitter. Steve and Brenda Cole have always been amazing to myself and my family to the point this has become a tradition for us. It is a true Northwoods experience! The guides are great at explaining everything and allow you to get involved with all aspects of the hunt. Our group has always had great success with the hunts through the guidance of the team. Highly recommend!!!

  5 stars!!! Huge thank you to Brenda, Steve, and the entire staff of Spruce Mountain Lodge for 3 great and successful years of Maine Bear hunting. You have both met and exceeded any and all expectations my son in law and I have had. The fact that my son in law tagged out all 3 years, and I tagged out twice, speaks volumes of your tireless efforts in putting your clients in locations and sites for a successful hunt.
